   Revelation Seminar Started August 30
*      Our Revelation Seminar started Monday, August 30 in the Seminar Room. This will be our evangelistic emphasis for the fall. The classes will cover 24 lessons and last for two months.

*      The Seminar is a class-type format with lessons available for each night.

*      There are two options for classes. A morning class taught by Pastor Carlson at 10:30 a.m., and an evening class at 7:00 p.m. taught by Pastor Moore. Classes will be held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week. You do NOT need to come to both. Each session will be presenting the same material.

There are still a few seats available for those not minding doing a few back lessons to catch up.

YO—YOUTH from Pastor David
Have you ever seen a caterpillar turn into a pupa? And have you ever seen a pupa turn into a butterfly? Witnessing the process of metamorphosis is truly amazing. Last week, my youngest son got out his caterpillar tent and went hunting, with his mother for Monarch caterpillars. Now where would you find one of these intriguing creatures? On their favorite plant—milkweed. After capturing four Monarch caterpillars, my son carefully placed them in his caterpillar tent with milkweed. Once they became accustomed to their new environment, they slowly crawled up the stem of the milkweed to where the leaves were. Then like growing teenagers, they began to gorge themselves on the delicious leaves. Sometime later, they climbed to the top of the tent and attached themselves there. In the morning, these caterpillars were encased in a cocoon-like structure called a chrysalis or pupa. Days later, they began to emerge, one by one, as beautiful Monarch butterflies.

What spiritual lesson can we learn from the butterfly? If we desire to be transformed into the lovely image of Christ, we must feast on His Word. As we read the thrilling stories of the Bible and contemplate the wonderful promises of that ancient book, the Holy Spirit will begin to transform our lives into the beautiful image of Jesus Christ. So don’t forget, the only way spiritual metamorphosis can occur is through reading the life-changing Word of God.

Vacation Bible School Report
Vacation Bible School was very exciting this year. We heard wonderful stories from the Bible. In the “prayer center” we learned many things about prayer like how, when, where and why to pray. We made several crafts including designing our own pinwheels and making foam boats that really float. In the “science center” we witnessed fun weather related experiments. And, as always, we loved the delicious snacks that you provided.

We enjoyed meeting new friends, including our guest missionary, Daniel. We were privileged to hear him sing a beautiful African hymn. We collected over 80 pairs of flip-flops and many bottles of vitamins in only four days to send with Daniel to Sudan. We give a “thank you” to all the volunteers and contributors who took the time to get involved in this ministry. Blessings!

Oak Hill Cemetery "Living History Tour"
See history come to life on Sunday, September 12 at 2:00 p.m., as Oak Hill Cemetery provides a "Living History Tour," which will feature Battle Creek residents sharing the stories of a number of Battle Creek's prominent individuals who are buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. The live actors will tell the stories of W. K. Kellogg, C. W. Post (for a rare treat, his mausoleum will be open), Crying Mary, Erastus Hussey, Ellen G. White (portrayed by Joyce Stoltz), John Harvey Kellogg (portrayed by Fred Bachman), and Sojourner Truth.

This is a guided walking tour that will take place rain or shine. Save money by purchasing your tickets in advance. Tickets are $5 for an individual and $15 for a family (up to two adults and children under age 15). Day of sale tickets will be $7 for an individual and $20 for a family.

Matrimonies
Congratulations to Jeff Lee and Kirby Bowman, who were married on August 1st. They will be moving to Kentucky to work at a Seventh-day Adventist hospital.

Also, congratulations to Jonathan Howes and Katie Fedyski. They were married on August 8. They are staying locally and will continue worshiping at the Tabernacle.

DAILY WALKS AND TRIALS
Have you ever driven down the road and suddenly thought your life was about to change? What if you are traveling on the freeway when suddenly the car crashes and flames come up around you and you freeze? Then two strangers come and lift you out of your vehicle and place you far from the burning inferno. Or maybe you slide on black ice and hit a cement retaining wall when suddenly an invisible hand turns the vehicle straight so others would not be injured. You wonder what has happened? Is this the end? Am I going to die?

What ever happens or might happen, we can go to God’s Word:
“I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.” (2 Sam. 22:4 & Psalm 18:3)

Satan works hard to destroy us when we choose to be obedient to God and choose Jesus over the things of this world. At times, do you ever feel like you couldn’t handle another problem? Jesus is near! He waits for us to come to Him with all your grief's, misfortunes, and trials. Are you willing to give your problems to Him today and say, “I surrender all.”?

“Cause me to hear thy loving kindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.” (Psalm 143:8)

 Satan's Constant Effort . . .
"It is Satan's constant effort to keep the attention diverted from the Saviour and thus prevent the union and communion of the soul with Christ.
                ▪ The pleasures of the world,
    ▪ life's cares and perplexities and sorrows,
    ▪ the faults of others,
    ▪ or your own faults and imperfections
to any or all of these he will seek to divert the mind. Do not be misled by his devices...Commit the keeping of your soul to God, and trust in Him. Talk and think of Jesus. Let self be lost in Him...If you will leave yourself in His hands, He will bring you off more than conqueror through Him that has loved you.”
Steps to Christ, page 71 (emphasis supplied).

Why Loaning Money Is Anything but Funny
So the old joke goes: if you lend your brother-in-law $50 and he never talks to you again, was it worth the investment?

The joke may be funny, but experiencing this in real life is anything but funny. Loaning money to a friend or family member is a bad decision. Someone who lends money to a loved one has their heart—not their head—in the right place. It is okay to give money, but loaning money to someone with whom you have a relationship will lead to broken hearts and broken wallets. Check out the statistics from a recent money-etiquette survey:
· 57% of people said they have seen a friendship or relationship ruined because one person didn't pay back the other.
· Almost 50% have loaned $100 or more to help out someone, but 55% don't get repaid.
· 71% lend money to immediate family members, 57% to relatives, and 54% to friends.

Loaning money makes relationships awkward. Parents who lend their newly married daughter and her husband a down payment for a house think they are helping out the new family. Soon, however, they are giving the young couple disapproving looks when an upcoming vacation becomes more important than repaying the loan. This leads to nothing but resentment and pain on both sides.

Don't do this to people and relationships that mean something to you. If someone is in genuine need, it's great to help. If you help with money, make it a gift instead of a loan. By not having an I.O.U. hanging over your head, you will keep your relationships strong.

Our sympathies go to the Westerman family with the death of Vincent on August 9, in Missouri, where he lived with his family. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, September 5, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 3:00 at the church.

Coming in October...what does it mean to be a Seventh-day Adventist
During our worship service on the first Sabbath of October, we will join Adventists around the world focusing on just what it means to call ourselves Seventh-day Adventists. That weekend is the 150 year anniversary of the date when, at the suggestion of David Hewitt, we first took the name Seventh-day Adventist and began to see ourselves as a unified people.

Jim Nix will also be with us, and in the afternoon there will be a special program which will culminate going to Oak Hill Cemetery to dedicate a new headstone on the grave of David Hewlitt's wife Olive. She has never had a headstone, in spite of the fact that David and Olive hosted the first Adventist worship services in their home and were the first Seventh-day Adventists in Battle Creek. (David Hewitt's headstone was provided by the Youth of the Battle Creek Tabernacle when Elder E. L. Pingenot was pastor here in the mid-1940’s.)

New Church Cookbook
Woman’s Ministry is sponsoring a new Battle Creek Tabernacle cookbook. So we are looking to all those wonderful cooks who prepare healthy, low fat, yet delicious dishes that have satisfied families and potlucks partakers here in Battle Creek. If you would like to submit your best recipes, to share with others who want to feed their families healthy vegetarian dishes, here is the instructions: type up your recipe, include ingredients and directions, and add a personal comment about the dish, the source, or who especially enjoys it. Put your recipe in the box in the foyers marked BCT COOKBOOK or e-mail you recipe to Gail McDermott at maconpond@aol.com.

We would appreciate specialty recipes that are vegan, wheat free, gluten free, low calorie, low fat, low cholesterol, high fiber, or low carbohydrate. Wow! This is a fun project and I know we will have a highly successful cookbook that can be appreciated by our friends and families. Please submit your recipes by April 15. Hopefully, we will have it available by the Holidays in 2011.

LOST BOYS OF SUDAN: For our Vacation Bible School Daniel Kuol, one of the lost boys of Sudan, came dressed in traditional African dress to tell his personal story and sing an African hymn. Our VBS children wanted to help Sudanese children their age by sending them their first pair of shoes and collect vitamins to help combat malnutrition. They collected 88 pairs of flip-flops and 47 bottles of vitamins to send with Daniel as he returns to Sudan on August 31.
You can read Daniel’s story and mission at his website www.ssalmo.org. Daniel sent this thank-you note in appreciation for this contribution: “My happiness and gratitude to all VBS children who did this wonderful job by collecting flip-flops and vitamins to help people in Southern Sudan. Thank you Macie, Tricia, Bonnie, and all the Moms and Dads who volunteered to collect these wonderful gifts. May God Almighty extend his blessings to every one of you who participated in this project.”
