The Lord Asked Me To Do What ?
.

In our weekly Wednesday staff meetings at the Tabernacle this last year, we have been reading through the book "Sketches from the Life of Paul."   Over and over again I have been struck by Paul's unswerving dedication to the Lord.

I was struck again as we neared the end of the book and I saw the comment by the Servant of the Lord, Ellen White, on page 296 that says, "No man can be so situated that he can not obey God..." I was reminded of the importance of steadfast commitment and obedience, and also of the promise of God in 1 Cor. 10:13 that we will never be placed in a situation or circumstance where it is not possible to follow our Lord.

Does it ever seem that what God asks of you is too difficult…too much…more than you can bear...? It's not. No matter what circumstances we find ourselves in, we will never find ourselves in a place where there is a better choice than to follow the Lord and do as He has told us to do. We will never find ourselves in a circumstance where it is not possible to follow the Lord. There is never a good excuse for disobeying the Lord. That does not mean that we always "do" follow, but we always "can." He will never allow us to be put in a place where things are more than we can bear.

If there is a situation where there is an excuse for going in a direction other than what He has indicated, it would prove that our Lord has given us conditions of salvation for which we can not comply!

Does getting back to regular church attendance seem like too big a step? Does it seem like more than God should ask for you to totally forgive and forget that action that someone took against you? Do you struggle with a habit that seems to have such a hold on you that you may never get the victory? When you face temptation, do you know what you ought to do but lack the motivation or desire to do it? Do you find yourself making excuses and saying, "I'd love to see it differently, but there is really no way I could make it if I paid a faithful tithe or put the kids in church school, or made that change in my life?"

Is God...God, or not? Can He do what He says? Can He still provide a path through the wilderness? Will He keep His promises? Can He help? Don't look at the difficulties that might arise. Don't imagine the worst case scenario or focus on what could develop if things went totally wrong.

Look instead at God's promises. Trust Him. Obey Him. Test Him. Try Him. Decide to put Him first, then invite Him to open the doors and work in your behalf. You'll be surprised at what He will do!

His love for you is immeasurable. His power is undiminished. His ability to provide what you need is infinite. If you put your life in God's hands you have access to more than you can ever ask!

If you resolve to follow the Lord come what may, He will be there. Your prayers will be heard. He will provide the strength and show you the way. He will not fail. He will keep His promises. He will see you through and your heart will be at peace. Determine today that Christ will be first in every area of your life. Remember, "No man can be so situated that he cannot obey God…."
